Starting October 2024, new sidebar navigation became the default for all users.
In sidebar navigation, the menu bar across the top moves to the left. Sidebar navigation gives you more valuable screen space while keeping tables within easy reach. All existing settings like permissions, table order, and custom branding translate 1:1, so your work won’t be interrupted.

Turn on and off sidebar navigation
Sidebar navigation is on by default since October 2024. You can switch back to top navigation in your user preferences, if account admins allow you to do so.
Account admins control access to navigation options. Learn how to turn the feature on and off for your account. If the feature is turned on for your account, you can access navigation options in user preferences.
To access navigation preferences:
- Select the arrow next to Hi, [user name]
- Select Profile
- Select either Sidebar navigation or Top navigation
- Save your preferences
Table report styles and sidebar navigation
When you turn on sidebar navigation, all your table reports change to the default experience—the new style. You may still change back to the legacy table report style and Quickbase will remember your choice.
If you switch back to legacy navigation, Quickbase remembers your table report styles from the previous time you used legacy navigation. It will not maintain any changes you made to report styles while you were using the new navigation.
Sidebar navigation overview
Navigation updates consist of a collapsible sidebar and a new global navigation menu. We've also made updates to the page bar, report menu, help menu, and user menu.
Sidebar
The sidebar replaces the horizontal table bar in legacy navigation, with some enhancements.
The sidebar contains the following links. You’ll find links relevant to your permissions in the app.
All app users
- App home
- Tables in the app
App admins with app building permissions
- App settings
- Table settings
Users with permission to share the app
- Users page
Permissions and table order is the same as legacy navigation. Your users won't see any tables you've hidden. Table order translates from left to right, to up to down.
Using the sidebar
The first time you turn on sidebar navigation, the sidebar is open by default.
To collapse and expand the sidebar, select the arrow. The sidebar state persists as you navigate between pages.
When the sidebar is collapsed, hover anywhere on the gray bar to open it temporarily. Select the link you want to navigate to, and then the sidebar will automatically collapse.
Select and drag the edge of the sidebar to resize it.
Table settings shortcut for app admins
With the introduction of the sidebar, we’ve also introduced a shortcut to table settings.
To see table settings, hover on the table name. Then select the more menu.
The menu contains the most commonly accessed table settings. Access all settings on the table page by selecting All table settings.
Global navigation menu
Navigate to other key areas of the platform and recent apps in the global navigation menu.
The global navigation menu replaces the app bar in legacy navigation.
From this menu, navigate to:
- Apps
- Pipelines
- Exchange
- Fastfield
- Solutions
- Admin Console
Like the sidebar, the global navigation menu will only have links relevant to your permissions. For example, if your account does not allow access to the Exchange, Exchange will not be available in this menu. If you are not an admin, the menu will not have the link to the Admin Console.
The menu shows up to 8 recent apps so you can quickly access them again. This functionality replaces the horizontal bar that displayed all open apps in tabs.
Updated page bar
All of the actions available in the legacy page bar are available when using sidebar navigation. We have made some visual updates, changed the location of table settings, and improved the breadcrumb.

Updated help menu
The help menu retains the same functionality as the help menu in legacy navigation.
After typing in a search term, you can choose to search in:
- Help center (1)
- Community (2)
- Formula Functions reference app (3)
There are also links to Quickbase University (4), recorded Quickbase office hours (5), and the JSON RESTful API guide (6).
Use the help menu to open or manage support cases (7).
With sidebar navigation, you can also give feedback about the Quickbase product (8), without the need to go back to the My Apps page.
Updated user menu
All items in the user menu in legacy navigation are available in sidebar navigation. Some of the options have been reordered or renamed.
