While users can drag cards between columns on Kanban reports, turning on manual ordering also allows cards to be dragged up and down within columns. Manual ordering can help users prioritize their high priority issues by moving those cards to the top of their columns.
Setting up manual ordering
You can enable the option for users to switch on manual ordering either through Report Settings or through Advanced Table Settings.
In both instances, enabling manual ordering means that you’ve set up the option for users to switch it on for all Kanban reports based on that table. Note: Users will still need to go to the Sorting section on the Report Settings page to switch on manual ordering for individual Kanban reports.
Enable manual ordering option through the report builder panel
-
Open the settings of a Kanban report by clicking Customize this report. The Kanban report builder panel opens.
Note: The report builder panel is currently only available on Kanban reports. Read more about the panel here. -
In the Sorting section, select Enable manual ordering from the options. A popup appears.
-
Select OK in the pop-up to turn on the option for manual ordering for all Kanban reports based on this table.
Note: Users will need to repeat this process to enable manual ordering for other Kanban reports. -
Save your Report Settings.
Note: If you enable manual ordering from Report Settings, then your Kanban cards will initially display based on the table’s default sort field. If you prefer to choose the initial order yourself, go to the table’s advanced settings to enable manual ordering.
Enable manual ordering option through Advanced Table Settings
-
Open a table, then click Settings > Advanced settings
-
In the Advanced Table Settings section, select “Enabled” to enable manual ordering on Kanban reports. Select “Options” to select the initial order from a dropdown of choices.
-
Select the initial order you want cards sorted vertically in their columns. For instance, if your Kanban report shows the status of your projects, you can choose to sort from high to low based on budget.
Note: This only sets an initial order for your Kanban reports. Users can then reorder cards by dragging them on a report. This does not affect the values of the field chosen as the initial order field.
-
New records will display at the bottom of their columns.
-
Save your settings.
Switch on manual ordering for individual Kanban reports
-
Once an app admin enables manual ordering for a table either through Report Settings or through Advanced Table Settings, you can switch it on for an existing Kanban report by opening the report and selecting "Customize this report."
-
In the Sorting section, select “Users order the cards manually” to switch on manual ordering for this Kanban report. Note: This option is only available for Kanban reports for those tables that have manual ordering enabled.
-
Save the report.
Note:You can disable manual ordering only through Advanced Table Settings. If you disable manual ordering for a table, all Kanban reports that have manual ordering switched on will lose the order of their records. This order cannot be retrieved. While cards will remain in their columns, the reports revert to showing the records sorted by the default field.
