This article is about home page widgets. For dashboards, go to the Dashboard widgets article.
Search widgets allow you to search your app’s tables right from the app Home page.
Creating a Search widget
To add a Search widget to the app Home page, edit the app Home page. Drag the Search widget from the Widget Gallery to your desired location.
The Settings dialog will open automatically.
Configuring the search widget
Use the Search for dropdown to select the table you wish to search.
Note: You must choose a specific table. You cannot search across all available tables.
You can choose to search all searchable fields (the default) or select the fields to search. Select Choose fields to open the Choose Fields dialog.
You may select up to five fields in which to search. You can then choose how the Search field(s) will appear on your app Home page. You can search each field for specific information, you can search all fields in the table simultaneously, or you can choose one specific field to search.
When you have finished configuring your search parameters, click Done choosing fields to return to the Settings dialog.
Normally, search terms entered into the widget will cause Quickbase to search the table for fields that contain the term. This will return more results, but is a slower search. Select Match search term exactly to search the table for fields that equal the term. This will return fewer results, but deliver them faster. For example, if you think that your users will be searching for complete order numbers or other identifiers, using Match search term exactly may work better for them.
If you'd rather give your users the option of either type of search, select Allow user to choose exact search. When the app Home page loads, the search widget will default to the type of search set using the Match search term exactly checkbox, but the user will be able to change the type of search as needed.
As with all widgets, you can set this widget to be collapsible, if you have placed it on its own row, to preserve space on the app Home page. You can also choose to show a title for the widget.
Search reports
You can also search table reports. When you set up a search widget, in the Search in section, click A report and select the report you want users to search. So now, say, if you want to let your users search only open opportunities instead of all opportunities, now you can specify the appropriate report to be searched.
Note that:
- You can only select Common reports.
- You can’t search reports with an <ask the user> filter condition set.
- The search looks only at fields actually displayed in the report.
Customizing the search field
You can change the prompt for a Search widget field by hovering over it and clicking the Edit icon. Click the green checkmark icon to save your changes.
Search fields in a Search widget are initially populated with Click to add help text.
Click in the Search field to enter a helpful tip for the user.
Alternatively, if you are not using a Search field title, or if the Search field title does not describe what you’re searching for, you can add the search parameters as watermark text.
Click Save in the Page bar to save your changes.
